How to arrange a small office functionally?

A small office is a demanding space that needs a good project. The right choice of furniture, wall colors, lighting, and accessories is of great importance. Effective techniques that designers around the world use to enlarge interiors optically are also important. How to arrange a small office to be functional and conducive to both communication and concentration?

Division of space into zones

Each space can be artfully divided. It is proven by freelancers who often live and work in the same room, i.e., their own studio apartment. The separation of the work area from the social, dining, recreation, or conference area has a significant impact on the interior’s functionality. To make the best use of the available space and not visually reduce the office space, individual zones can be separated with furniture, glass partitions, or green walls. The walls are an excellent alternative to potted plants that look beautiful but simultaneously take up a lot of space.

How to visually enlarge the space?

Designers use many tricks that allow even the smallest rooms to be optically enlarged. How to paint a small office? The basic rule is to use bright colors that reflect the light and make the interior appear larger. However, this does not mean that your office has to be sterile white.
You can choose, for example, fashionable pastels or a photo wallpaper on one wall. Wallpaper with a distant background that gives the effect of depth (e.g., a bridge, a road, or a city panorama) will work best. The optical illusion can also be achieved using vertical or horizontal stripes, depending on whether you want to extend or expand the office.
An excellent idea for a small office is also the use of mirrors, a favorite trick of designers. The mirror (or mirrors) is best placed opposite the entrance or in the room’s corners. A large mirror can also be hung on the entire wall, effectively enlarging a small office. Arrangement with the use of mirrors is simple and inexpensive and, at the same time, a very effective trick.
Lighting is also important, especially if your office has a small amount of natural light. But in this case, brighter does not necessarily mean better. Warm lighting causes sleepiness, while cold lighting can tire your eyesight. Choose a neutral light of 3500-4300 K, which is most conducive to focus.

Furniture for a small office

How to furnish a small office? Because furniture takes up most of the office space, it is worth ensuring that it does not overwhelm the space. First of all, small office furniture should be bright and light, not dark and massive. Furniture on legs that do not touch the ground is also a good idea – this solution makes the interior seem lighter and higher. In a small office, modular furniture will be perfect, as it allows you to take full advantage of the available space by combining individual elements, such as desks, wardrobes, cabinets, shelves, or containers.
It is also worthwhile to properly develop all kinds of recesses, perfect for installing a built-in wall unit with mirrored sliding doors. In such a cabinet, you can store, for example, binders with documents. Hanging cabinets are another option, which allows you to make optimal use of the space on the walls. To save space, it is also worth investing in a multifunctional device that combines the functions of a copier, printer, and scanner.
